Capizzi Pizza & Wine Bar
I slightly digress from fashion and design for a second to share with you an amazing new Italian restaurant in NYC. Capizzi Pizza & Wine Bar (547 9th Avenue) is a MUST for locals and tourist. I had the pleasure of attending a food and wine tasting for The Adventurista last month. I figured my readers would benefit from this post since I am always being asked where to eat in city. Well, you are definitely going to want to check this place out.
Capizzi owner Joseph Calcagno is an Italian American who grew up working in the kitchens of his parents’ Brooklyn pizza parlors. His parents grew up in the kitchen of their families in a small town named Capizzi. Joe did an excellent job re-creating an at home feel inside the restaurant. The cozy atmosphere is complete with an authentic wood-burning oven surrounded by fresh red peppers on display in the back.

Every single ingredient in the restaurant is FRESH and every single item on the menu is made from scratch, including the delicious tiramisu on the dessert men (highly recommend!). At Capizzi you really experience the best of the best. The wine selection was absolute heaven.

It has been one the best food experiences I have had in awhile. Capizzi is located behind Port Authority Bus Terminal (40th and 9th Avenue) for those who traveling into the city. It is a great spot for catching up with friends or a perfect date night spot. Thanks to Naima for the experience and the amazing photos (click here to view more of our gathering).

DANNIJO Accessories
Founded by sisters Danielle and Jodie Snyder in 2008, DANNIJO is a line of gorgeous, eccentric metals and wares. I had the pleasure of attending their Fall/Winter 2011 presentation. DANNIJO is a line that was spotted on the runway several times during Fashion Week this past season. The sister duo talent is not hard to recognize.
Layering and wearing chunky metal are a big trend for accessories. I don't think this will be dying down anytime soon either. A perfect way to update any basic clothing pieces in your wardrobe or spice up a casual outfit. You can find DANNIJO at Saks.com or Net-A-Porter.com

Shopping for Labels or Shopping for Love?
A couple of weeks ago I was working with a client who is in her mid-twenties looking to upgrade her style. We spent a lot of time contemplating items in her wardrobe that were from her college days. A majority of the items she was ready to move on from but there is one handbag (shown above) in particular she wasn't.
When making the choice to give up an item or not I always ask, "Why do you love this item?" If it's because of the quality or style then that is fine to keep it. However if you are just wearing this item because of the logo that is a big, fat NO-NO.
It turned out she genuinely did love the bag. We also came across a box of beautiful scarfs that she had tucked away and never used. I took one of the scarfs from the box, removed the logo-ridden scarf and viola!....
Not only does the handbag have character now, the scarf is better quality then the last. I showed the 'before and after' to a friend, she said the 'after' bag reminds her of a Chloe bag. Not too shabby. Don't be fooled by logo-ridden bags as a stamp for 'luxury', always check the quality of fabric or leather it is made with. STYLE TIP: Handbags of actual quality and luxury are subtle with their logo.
So, are you shopping for labels or shopping for love?

Ask A Stylist: Curly Hair Tips & Jeans for Pettie Ladies
Hello,
I wanted to ask you for some tips. I have curly hair & what hair-cut should I get & I want to grow it long, so should I get it cut every 6 months or less ? or more ? Another thing, I'm short so what kind of style of jeans should I wear.
Thank you.
I can totally relate to your curly hair situation! My hair is thick and full of curls. I recently decided to let it grow long. This is the longest I have had it in years. First off, you want to get your hair trimmed every 6 weeks. Or else it might end up being a big, ratty mess. Trust me, your hair will continue to grow long even with 6 week trims and it will look a lot healthier.
If your hair is thick and full like mine I suggest investing in the Keratin Treatment. It cuts out the frizz and makes your hair 10xs lighter. Honestly, I don't think I would have my hair as long as it is if I hadn't done the Keratin. My hair would be weighing me down! The Keratin lasts up to 6 months and you can read more about my experiences with it here.

As for your denim dilemma, here are a few things to keep in mind when shopping for jeans to fit your body type. Petite ladies should opt for a dark denim color. This helps make your legs look longer. As for the cut, you should look for skinny leg and slight boot cut versions. It's also important to pair your jeans with the right shoe. Stay away from knee-high boots as they will visually chop you in half. Try a pair of ankle booties or pumps with those skinny leg jeans. When wearing the slight boot cut version make sure the end of the jean skims the bottom of your shoes (as shown above on the right). Never underestimate the power of a tailor! MBFW: AMEX Skybox with Peter Davis
During Mercedes Benz Fashion Week AMEX is gracious enough to host style chats/tweet-ups with some of fashion's taste makers. I was able to attend a style chat with Peter Davis who is the Editor at Large of Paper, Senior Editor at VS and Editor In Chief of Avenue.
(Sidenote: this took place on Valentine's Day - hence his outfit)
Davis shared with us his take on this season's shows. He mentioned how the main highlight at each show has been the shoes. "They keep getting better and better," says Davis. In the upcoming season he hopes more designers will keep real fur in the forest and off the runway. He awards Best Soundtrack and Best Hair to Charlotte Ronson.
At the end of our chat Davis mentioned his advice for success in fashion...
Intern, push yourself into every situation (writing, styling, etc) and dress as if you are all ready Anna Wintour!

MBFW: Backstage at Costello Taliapietra F/W 2011
My schedule has finally started to slow down and I have a chance to fill you in on adventures thus far. I went backstage to check out the hair and makeup for Costello Taliapietra at MILK Studios. Matte red lips, spearmint green eyes & nails was the look for the show. I loved the color combination of the red and spearmint. Do I sense a makeup trend coming on?
Leading hair stylist Nelson Vercher from the Rita Hazan Salon channeled the late 1960's and early 1970's suburban housewife. The hairstyle reminds me a bit of Jackie O and old Hollywood glamour.
Here is Nelson working his magic backstage...

MBFW: Christian Siriano F/W 2011
If there is one show I look forward to every season it is Christian Siriano's. He never disappoints. This season his color palette consisted of black, olive green and mauve pink. I love the color combination for the fall/winter months. Often I tend to stick to black and gray shades in the winter but I'm stepping it up with some color thanks to Siriano. The shoes were BEYOND gorgeous! However a few models whipped out on the runway. The images shown from the collection are my favorite top 3 looks. (Photo Source: nymag.com)

Theodora & Callum
Last week I stopped by to preview the new accessories line 'Theodora & Callum' created by Stefani Greenfield and Desiree Gruber. The line is named after Greenfield's daughter and Gruber's son. It is a line of shoes, scarfs and jewelry inspired by their travels around the world. The pieces in this collection can easily be worn effortlessly in the city or beach chic. Tomorrow is the official launch of their website, be sure to stop by www.theodoraandcallum.com and enter to win a $2,500 shopping spree!
The shoes and handbags are manufactured by Stuart Weitzman, which means the quality is fantastic. I am absolutely in love with the mix of prints on each wedge. The scarfs are made to compliment the shoes but not look so matchy-matchy.
The collection also contains amazing gypsy-esque necklaces which can be worn alone or layered to make a statement. You can view more of my sneak-peek at this collection here.

Ask A Stylist: How Do I Wear American Apparel's V-Bodysuit?
A reader asked me how should she wear this amazing bodysuit from American Apparel for her celebration birthday later this month.
I suggest wearing this top with a pair of cropped black trousers. Since the top is a bit revealing you want to keep the rest simple. Style Tip: choose ONE body part to show and cover the rest.
I choose the cropped trousers instead of wide-leg because I think you should finish this outfit with a gorgeous pair of heels. Personally, I would wear a pair of red or leopard pumps.
Do you have a special occasion coming up? Feel free to send your questions my way!

The Julie Deterra Benefit
A couple of weeks ago I received a phone call from my best friend asking if I would donate my personal styling services to be raffled off at a benefit for a cancer patient (of course!). She proceeded to tell me Julie Deterra's story and I was extremely touched.
Julie will under go an extremely complicated surgery and the costs are outrageous. She is a wife and mother of two adorable twins. Her family and friends have come together to host a benefit on Saturday, February 26th from 6pm to 11pm at Cafe Funchal in New Bedford, MA. It will be a gathering of good people, food and door prizes (ahem, my styling services). Tickets are $25 per person.
If you are unable to attend, there is an ongoing donation collection. You can submit your donation here:
Friends of Julie Deterra
P.O. Box 1371
Attleboro, MA 02763
I receive thousands of visitors to this site, if each of us sent $10 it would be over $10,000 which would put a significant dent into her medical costs. Please spread the word to others who maybe interested in donating or attending the benefit as well.

[Men's Fashion] How To Wear a Sweater Vest
Recently I was styling a male client and he asked me to show him how to wear a sweater vest. Fellas, if there is a sweater vest sitting in the back of your closet get ready to take it out.
There are only two wardrobe items you need to rock a sweater vest; a button down shirt and tie. You can actually skip the tie all together if that's not your thing. I paired my client's vest with a classic white button down and black tie. No matter the color or pattern of the vest you can't go wrong with the black & white combo underneath.
Typically when you think of a sweater vest you envision it with khaki pants. Wrong. Try a modern version and rock your sweater vest with denim. This look shows your put together yet not stuffy.

Trend Report: Nail Polish
Nude never gets old and always looks elegant. This a go-to color for me when I'm indecisive about what polish I want to rock.
Purple is the new black. I love the lilac and lavender hues that are soft yet add a splash of personality.
Mint greens and icy blues are all the rage when it comes to nail polish trends. I haven't tried this color yet but it is definitely on my list of colors to try. Soon!
Peach and soft pink nail colors are fun yet still scream elegant and classy.
Feeling edgy? Metallic tones are still on point. Last week I rocked a silver metallic polish and received tons of compliments. These hues are definitely eye catching.
Which nail color trend will you try?

3 Ways To Re-Work Your Wardrobe
"Any tips on how to update your style/look by remixing your own wardrobe?" is a question I get frequently asked. Heck, I even ask myself this question often. Here are my tips for re-working your current wardrobe.
1. Re-organize your closet: We tend to wear the same things because we are looking at the same clothes in the same way daily. Blah! When I find myself bored with my wardrobe I switch things up. I am a huge fan of color coordinating my clothes. It is visually appealing and makes getting dressed so much easier. If you find yourself wearing mostly black, stay away from that section and visit your reds, purples or blues. Same goes with your shoes, handbags and accessories. Put those that you have been wearing constantly in the back and move the others in front.
2. Belt it: I can't preach enough how adding a belt to an outfit can change the look completely. You should own a belt or two (preferably in different sizes and color). Try adding a belt over that chunky, cable-knit sweater instead of wearing the sweater alone. Belts are used to accent and flatter your body type. Take time to play around with the position of the belt; hips, waist, etc to see where it flatters you the most.
3. Accessories: Never underestimate the power of accessories. Whether it's a necklace, cocktail ring or scarf, they can totally transform and create a new outfit. Layering accessories is really big right now so don't hesitate to throw on a few layers of pearls. I love wearing jeans, a simple long-sleeve shirt and then piling on the accessories in the winter.
Hope you have fun this week or weekend re-working your wardrobe! If you have any other fashion or style related questions, don't hesitate to Ask A Stylist.
