Happy Birthday Gabrielle 'Coco' Chanel

On this day 127 years ago Gabrielle 'Coco' Chanel was born.  I bet she had no idea what an impact she would have on fashion and style as we know it. Chanel is right up there with Audrey Hepburn on my list of  people I adore.  I admire her dedication and spit-fire attitude towards her work & passion. She didn't take 'no' for an answer and always followed her vision.  Did you know her collection did not take off until she was 55 years old and had just come out of retirement?  Until then critics constantly put down her work because it was different.

Fast forward centuries later and look what being different got her...a place in history. Remember this when you decide to follow the crowd or a take path all ready taken. Create your own history!

Chanel is best known for inventing the 'Little Black Dress' and bringing nautical stripes as well as women wearing men's wear to fashion's forefront.  If you haven't seen Coco Before Chanel or Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky add this to your Netflicks list. Lifetime's Coco Chanel movie starring Shirely McClaine is fantastic also. If you're looking for inspiration or at the end of the road when you think nothing is possible either of these films while motivate you as you watch Chanel conquer a rough upbringing and navigate her way to a place in history.
