SPOTLIGHT: Temperley London

Last - but not least! - my review on Temperley London's presentation at NYFW.  I choose to give her today's spotlight because I adore her work and style. The Temperley London collection she showed last month was inspiring, as well as the story behind it all...

Temperley London's Fall/Winter 2010 collection is inspired by the late Norman Parkinson. Temperley brings her own distinctively British point-of-view to this season's take on Parkinsonian glamour. She was invited to view a series of Norman's prints that had been hidden away in a private archive. The sense of style she saw in those images - witty, sophisticated, distinctively British - inspired her Fall/Winter 2010 collection.

The presentation was gorgeous! The life size canvas images in the background were hand-embroidered and embellishes with the same techniques used in the collection piece - an amazing three dimensional representation of both image and garment.

The entire collection read 'romance', especially the evening wear. Reoccurring gem embellishments ruffles, flowing tunic tops, however there was a bit of punk twisted in there in her form-fit Union Jack knitwear dress. What I love about Temperley's collection is that she not afraid to push the envelope, however she create pieces that are timeless.

And as if she couldn't get any higher up on my list, she wanted to make this season's installation a more meaningful format. The detailed canvas images will be auctioned off in London Spring 2010. All proceeds from the auction will be donated to Oxfam in order to support women in West Africa.
