Do we really know the meaning of luxury?
I am in the middle of reading DELUXE: How Luxury Lost It's Luster by Dana Thomas. I can't put the book down! It's so interesting to read about how luxury was really luxury back in the day and today it's just a mere marketing plan. Of course the classics such as Hermes, Goyard and Louis Vuitton are still true to their name in terms of quality over quantity. However, I am having second thoughts on that Gucci bag I have been eyeing. Here are some fun facts:
The Louis Vuitton Brand and the famous LV monogram are among the world's most valuable brands and are still hand made. It is the most heavily counterfeited brand in fashion history, with only 1% of all Louis Vuitton-branded items in circulation considered authentic.
Goyard is still a relatively small family-run company, only sold in France, its San Francisco shop, and Barney's New York. In some cases you have to wait as much as 3 months for the production of a specific style.

SPOTLIGHT: Colin Cowie

I have met the man of my dreams, Colin Cowie. This event planner knows how life should be lived. Exactly the type of person I love to surround myself with. I have been eyeing his book A Guide To Life As It Should Be and finally had the chance to read it cover to cover.
Cowie's book is my motto to life and then some. Why do we wait for a special occasion to use those fantastic wine glasses sitting in the cabinet? Cowie believes every day should be a celebration and lived to the fullest. I'll toast to that!
The book is filled with beautiful images of Cowie's own home and office. One word - IMMACULATE! Those who know me know how much I adore organization. Let's just say he takes it to the next level. This book is totally inspiring and should be in every home.

Just look at this closet, laundry bins for whites and colors...love, love, love.
Check out Colin Cowie - you won't be disappointed.

Lipstick Queen's Big Bang Theory
Recently I have become a fan of Poppy King - the ultimate LIPSTICK QUEEN. Always on the quest for the perfect lip shade I decided to give the Big Bang Theory line a try. Poppy's glosses are right up their on my list with MAC, and you know how I much I love MAC. The gloss is light, not leaving a sticky feeling on my lips. The color complemented my skin beautifully. However, my story has a tragic ending. After a night on the town (and too many glasses of Pinot Grigio) I dropped my clutch and the tube of gloss shattered! I DIED. So ladies, be careful and make sure you don't carry your beloved gloss in a paper thin clutch like I did. I highly recommend you try this line, Poppy knows her stuff!

Coco Before Chanel
A few summers back I happened to come across Chanel's biography in a used bookstore for $2. A hidden gem that I could not pass up! Unfortunately, I haven't made it past the first chapter. To my surprise, Gabriel 'Coco' Chanel was born to a life of poverty. She was a cabaret performer and humble seamstress before she climbed her way to the top. Chanel even disowned her own brother! On September 25th the movie shows just that and more. It is now showing in France and the UK, receiving rave reviews. Many are saying how deeply moved they were by this film.

My Style Icon: JENNIFER LOPEZ
Jennifer Lopez will be gracing the cover of InStyle's 15th Anniversary Issue. This is just a sneak-peek inside off the September Issue. I love how JLo can pull of basically anything. Why is that? It's not because of her looks, it's her confidence. This is the reason why Lopez is my style icon.Monday, August 17, 2009
Dress Codes: Clothing as a Metaphor Exhibit
Katonah Museum of Art (Katonah, NY) is showing this exhibit until October 4th. It seems suitable for the times. The artist participating feel that fashion is not just way of expressing yourself, it also conveys a wide range of global ideas, ranging from the economy to war to religion.
Maureen Connor’s “Thinner Than You” points to the media-imposed ideals of beauty with a wispy dress that features a waist that measures no more than 10 inches — one that no human could ever squeeze into.
Yael Mer’s “2 Evacuation Dresses” has a more relaxed fit and inflates into an emergency kayak, making it fashionable enough for the next natural disaster.

Parisian Joy

I hope your Monday is off to a sweet start. If not, this will add some delight to your day. Paris luxury jewelry designer Boucheron immortalizes Laudree's macaroons as part of this year's collection, which includes rings, necklaces, pendants and earrings. To add a modern day twist on it, someone has all ready taken a bite out of each one. LOVE it!
The collection runs from 4,999 to 7,500 euros.

There is something about macaroons that make them so beautiful. Maybe it's the color combinations. Whatever it is I could look at them for days.

My nickname in college was black barbie, ha!
Franca Sozzani choose to only use black dolls in the July supplement commenting, “Barbie has been an icon for whole generations which is why I really wanted to give a strong sign in step with the times, and dedicate the anniversary issue to black Barbie.
Sounds good to me!
I must get a copy of this cover, frame it and add to my decor.
