"If you wanna make the world a better place,
take a look at yourself and then make a change."
-Michael Jackson (1958-2009)

Yesterday was one of those days in history I will always remember where I was and how I found out about MJ, just like 9/11 and when Obama became President. After work I was speed walking home to get ready for a friend's performance. As I cut through Morningside Park, a man sitting on the bench said "Yeah, I heard that Michael Jackson died." I stopped dead in my tracks and my head did a 360. A guy sitting next to him gave me a nod implying that it was true. Once I reached my apartment I quickly put on the TV to find out if this was true. Sure enough, it was.

Ten minutes later I was out the door again to head to the performance in Brooklyn. As I approached the subway a few blocks away, the tunes of MJ's "Rock with You" was blaring from a car parked on the street. Children were dancing on the sidewalks while adults talked about the shocking news. Jackson's tunes were still in the air when I arrived home in the wee hours of the night, this time coming from an apartment building. Twenty-four hours later almost every block or car I pass is playing his music. In fact, as I am typing I can hear "Thriller" coming from my neighbor's apartment.

To have such an influence on people, one could only imagine...

If there is one thing I learned from Jackson is to not hold back on life. No matter how crazy people might think you are, get out there and do your thing! Tomorrow is not promised to any one of us.

Daydreaming of Paris...

...lately, I find myself doing this often.

This weekend I went to Taschen's Warehouse Sale and bought their Paris, HOTELS & MORE. I plan on celebrating my 30th birthday in oh-so-lovely Paris (less than 2 years from now!).While pursuing my favorite blogs I came across Paris Hotel Boutique Journal. It covers everything chic in the City of Love. Laduree Bar will be a must-see on my trip. Check out the macaroon-inspired cocktail!

Fashion & Politics @ the Museum at FIT

The Isabel Toledo: Fashion from the Inside Out exhibit will be at the Museum at FIT until September 26, 2009. Toledo is the creator of Michelle O.'s inauguration dress & jacket ensemble. The exhibit looks at her work which exemplifies the highest standards of creativity and craftsmanship. I just realized Ruben Toledo is Isabel's husband! Ruben Toledo is an illustrator I adore. I fell in love with his illustrations in Nina Gracia's books.

On July 7th the Museum at FIT will present Fashion & Politics. An exploration of over 200 years of politics expressed through fashion. The gallery will include the infamous "NIXON" paper dress along with Catherine Malandrino's iconic American Flag dress worn by celebrities after 9/11 and again in response to the 2008 elections. Michelle O. has donated her Isabel Toledo ensemble from Inauguration Day. This exhibit will show until November 7, 2009.

SPOTLIGHT: Kim K. embracing her cellulite

Unless you have been living under a rock, you probably heard about the controversy about the unairbrushed photos of Kim.

A loyal blog reader just sent me the images. What's funny is I just noticed my own, ahem, cellulite this morning. Of course in our society we are taught to be hard on ourselves and strive for perfection. These images were definitely an inspiration and goes to show you NO ONE is perfect. Instead of being a diva, Kim embraces her flaws. I love it! She deserves the spotlight.

HEMYCA comes to NYC

Rumor has it of UK's most sought after designer will be coming to NYC! Fans of the line include Kimberly Stewart, Tori Amost and of course, myself. HEMYCA will be available at Fifth on Main (109 Spring St between Greene and Mercer).

The highly anticipated A/W 09 collection ‘A Venetian Affair’ at London Fashion Week in association with Vauxhall Fashion Scout. Inspired by the architecture, history and romance of Venice, the collection embodies the essence of passion. Picture two lovers secretly embracing at the Rialto Bridge over looking the starlit Grand Canal - forbidden love and secrets inspires the shapes, colours and allure of ‘A Venetian Affair’.

I am still coveting this jacket from their A/W '09 line...

Score!

Last night I ventured downtown to Century 21. Low and behold I scored two Rosanna, Inc. tea sets that I wanted for basically 60-70% off. I thought I would share since the sale prices range from $7.99-14.99.

I bought the last set of the 4 tea cups and saucers from the Tea's Me set below (sorry). However, there still are several tea pots left. Such a fabulous deal for tea lovers like myself.

Iconic Fashion @ The Met Museum

The Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute explores 50 years of iconic fashion. God, I love this city! Every where I turn there is something to satisfy my love for fashion. This is going at the top of my "must see" list. I have been sitting here looking at the highlights from the exhibit for the past hour.

House of Givenchy 1968-1969

Bill Bass, late 1960's

House of Balenciaga, spring/summer 1948

House of Dior, spring/summer 1953

Along with this exhibit is The Model as Muse: Embodying the Fashion exhibition. Historically organized from 1947 to 1997.

Can't make it to The Met? Enjoy this video walk through of the exhibit and a behind-the-scenes footage.
