EDGE*nyNOHO Event

In lieu of celebrating Independent Retailer's Week, Schenelle and I headed downtown to EDGE*nyNOHO. EDGE is a boutique located at 65 Bleecker Street in NoHo. It houses over 40 emerging designers ranging from clothing, jewelry and accessories. The event kicked off with the first 50 to people to arrive receive a $20 gift card- yes, we were one of them!

I made my way right to Madame Mo's section. I was introduced to Madame Mo's collection this past spring at a Shecky's event. Since I am the type of gal who would rather wear a dress instead of pants I am big fan of her dresses. And how do you not die over this hat? I love, LOVE, love it. Each hat is a one of a kind design ($65).

I came across Eda & Betty Heirloom Couture. Their necklaces were paired with Madame Mo's dresses on display. I have never come across necklaces in this style so they definitely caught my eye from the moment I laid my eyes on them. I did a little research and checked out their website. It seems they are quite popular among celebs. You can find these jewels at Nordstorm, however if you head to Edge*nyNOHO you can buy them straight from the retailer for a cheaper price - good to know!

Well that's all for now...
If I don't get on here before, have a fabulous Thanksgiving!!

Lip Therapy

Baby it's cold outside!

And my lips are CHAPPED. Well luckily there is help. You can go for the high end Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment for $22.50. Or you could for the low end version Nivea Lip Care at Drugstore.com for $3.

Personally I have only tried the Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment and I LOVE it. The price is a bit steep but it's worth it. I am going to pick up the Nivea Lip Care next time I am at Target and give it a try.

Independent Retail Week

It's Independent Retail Week in NYC. This past Saturday, DEX New York kicked it off with a party full of fashion, beauty and fun. Laura and I were basically the first ones in the door on Saturday! The party consisted of make-up applications, previews to some of the independent retailers and unlimitied bloody mary's.

In need of a new bronzer I found just what I was looking for. DEX's cosmetics are made from minerals, therefore you are not harming your face with unknown chemicals. I was in luck because their summer line is currently 50% off and an additional 20% for Independent Retail Week. I purchased the bronzer in Sunset Beach (left) which goes with my skin tone. The bronzer to the right is Manhattan Beach, which I am guessing is for those with a lighter tone.

Laura purchased two eye shadows; Greenwich Village and Morningside Park (which is funny because one is named after the neighorborhood where we lived together and the other is my current neighborhood! - sorry, I find it amusing/ironic) These shadows were from their summer line so they were also on sale. It came out to about $4 for each shadow. A fantastic price to pay for quality makeup.

Check out Independent Retail Week website for more information on participating boutiques & events happening this week! And don't forget to print the 20% off voucher!!

MAC Holiday Collection

MAC's holiday collection is a great idea for the MAC junkie (aheem, like myself) in your life. The Holiday gift sets range from $29 - $40. It's never too early to start your holiday shopping, especially since this collection is for a limited time.

Every year MAC also comes out with a holiday card set - KIDS HELPING KIDS. It is a set of six assorted Kids Helping Kids greeting cards with envelopes in a shiny red metallic carton. Each card features children’s art specially created for this seasonal program. 100% of the selling price goes to support pediatric AIDS organizations around the world. Limited edition.

Lucky Shops Recap

The girls and I ventured to Lucky Shops sponsored by Lucky Magazine on Saturday. The chic bazaar started on Thursday where you could find major labels like Theory, Alice & Olivia, Chloe, Micheal Kors, Kate Spade and many more up to 70% off.

Personally, I didn't find anything within my budget. It might have been because I went on Saturday, which was basically leftovers of the previous two-days. Also, most of the vendors clothing and accessories were 50-70% off of say $500, so that's a still a good $250 you are spending. I highly recommend Lucky Shops if you are dieing for a certain item by these designers and don't want to pay full price. Lucky Shops only happens once a year and note to self: go the first day and expect to spend $$ on $$$ items, not just $.

However, it wasn't a total bust. We received a complementary 1 year subscription to Lucky and Garneir Fructis products.

It looks like our Gossip Girls found some goodies!
Here is "Vanessa" & "Blair" on Thursday, which was VIP Night.

And I died

Just another stroll down 5th Avenue.
Enjoy the sights...

Michelle Obama the next Jackie O.?

Everyone is talking about Michelle Obama becoming the next Jackie O. I have to agree with them. The woman has a great sense of style. I love how she takes risks and tries out the current trends but does them in a way that compliments her. Michelle designs shoes which can be found at I Heart Italian Shoes. I found this out at Fashion Week this past September.

The Narciso Rodriguez dress she wore on November 4th is all ready sold out in stores and backordered!! I have a feeling the next four years are going to be fabulous and chic.

GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!

Last night was a life experience I will never forget! Let's just say it beats my first Fashion Week experience - no joke! Words cannot even describe the sense of energy that was in the air. It was truly amazing to see everyone in his country fight for it's beliefs. Whether you were voting for the blue or red, you made your voice heard. And what amazes me the most is the historic landslide Barack Obama made!! The 163 electoral votes for McCain was no match for Obama's 349. The American people have spoken and IT IS time for a change.

While I was moshed inside of Rockefeller Center with thousands of people, I made quite a few friends. Everyone spirits where high and everyone wanted to know your name and your story. We had Democrats, Republicans, Tourists, Manhattanites, etc. An older lady - who said she is older than John McCain - from California turned to me and said, "I don't know if you realize how amazing this is. For me to be able to vote for an African American President. I am way old and have been around when whites and blacks were separated. This is truly amazing and I am so proud of our country."

After Obama reached 338 electoral votes we realized he had it in the bag. My friend Kambi and I then headed to Times Square. We entered Times Square singing and dancing, "God Bless America"...no joke! Obama then came on to give his speech and everyone on the streets went into the nearest bar with a TV. I swear you could only hear Obama's voice throughout the city as everyone was listening in awe.

After Obama's speech I was exhausted and decided to head home. As I got off of the subway at 125th the music and cheers of millions filled the air. People where dancing all along the streets. Even though I was exhausted, the energy surrounding me could have kept me going until 4 a.m. While I walked back to my apartment I couldn't help but smile to myself. We made history on November 4, 2008.

Coming Soon...

'OPERATION FABULOUS'

No, I am not kidding...
Ms. J and Jay Manuel from Top Model are hosting a new show coming soon. It's NOT a Top Model spinoff however. It's a show where they take 5 ordinary women living in the same town and give them a makeover. Then the women compete to win a prize.

Let's just say I am very curious to see how this show turns out.
